Charlotte, North Carolina
Jesse L. Elleby, age 84, of Charlotte, North Carolina, peacefully answered God’s call and returned to his eternal home on May 18, 2026. He was born on October 28, 1941, in Marion, South Carolina, to the late Johnson Elleby and Vermel Abraham.
After graduating from Terrell Bay High School, Jesse built a long and fulfilling career as a transport operator with Goodyear. Following a well-earned retirement, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to own and operate his own successful home improvement company, Elleby & Service.
In 1962, Jesse wed the love of his life, Burnetta G. Elleby. Together, they walked hand in hand through life, sharing 63 wonderful, blessed, and devoted years of marriage. Known to all as a humble, gentle, and endlessly kind man, Jesse possessed a quiet strength and a generous heart. He had a deep passion for traveling the open road, watching classic Western movies, and hanging with his best friend, Billy. Above all else, his favorite and most cherished moments were those spent surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, Johnson Elleby and Vermel Abraham; his beloved children, Bernadette Neal (Frank) and Jonathan Elleby (Maxine); his brothers, Leroy Elleby (SallieJane) and Sylvester Elleby (Catherine); and his precious great-granddaughter, Zuri Sistare
He leaves to cherish his precious memory and carry on his legacy: his loving and devoted wife, Burnetta; his daughter, Queen Greer (Martin); his grandchildren, Julius Sistare, NaShaida Sistare, Jartarrio Sistare, Jada Elleby, Quandra Littlejohn, and Nneka Witter; his great-grandchildren, Andrea' Sistare and A'Niya Sistare; his siblings, Lester Elleby and Janette Daniels (Joel); his honorary daughter Marie, special niece, Pamela Elleby; life-long friends Billy & Trish Vinson, and a host of extended family, bonus relatives, and dear friends whose lives were touched by his kindness.
A public viewing will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Marvin AME Zion Church, 1525 Crane Road, Waxhaw, North Carolina, 28173, followed by a celebration of Jesse's life at 2:00 PM.
As we bid farewell to Jesse Elleby, we remember him as a beacon of strength, a pillar of dedication, and a symbol of unwavering love for his family and work. As we honor his life, we invite you to share your memories and photographs of Jesse on his memorial page. Your tributes will serve as a comforting reminder of the love and respect we all hold for Jesse. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide us, reminding us that life's true value lies not in what we acquire, but in what we give.
