Nancy Hersey

–

Matthews, North Carolina

Nancy Hersey, known warmly as "Nan" to all who loved her, danced her way into heaven on October 13, 2026. Born on February 17, 1947, in Bridgeport, CT, she showered this world with her spirited, compassionate, and loving nature for 79 glorious years. She was a dedicated wife to her beloved husband Elwood Hersey, whom she married on July 31, 1965. Their love story was as timeless as the dance steps they so often enjoyed together. As a resident of Matthews, North Carolina, Nancy embraced the community wholeheartedly, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Nancy was a hardworking woman, dedicating herself to civil service in laundry services. Her dedication and diligence earned her respect among her colleagues and friends at Disney World, Orlando Florida, where she retired in 2006. Her retirement years were filled with the joys of dancing with Elwood, known affectionately as "Buckey," spending precious moments with her daughters, Theresa and Lynn, and making unforgettable memories with her seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Nancy’s love for life extended to her hobbies, which included traveling, camping, and cruising, each adventure enriching her life in unique ways. A proud life member of the VFW Auxiliary, Celerity Squares, and Square Wheels camping club, Nancy's spirited nature and zest for life were indeed infectious.

As a woman of deep faith, Nancy's life was guided by the words “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21). Her commitment to her Pentecostal faith was evident in the way she lived her life and served her community. As a young woman, she served as a Sunday school teacher, a testament to her religious devotion. Above all, family was the cornerstone of Nancy's life. She is survived by her daughters Lynn Nielsen and Theresa Belanger, and her husband Elwood. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Madeline Durost, her sisters Arlene Delbene, Phyliss Esposito, Priscilla Bristol and brother Walter Durost JR. The legacy of Nancy’s dedicated, compassionate, and loving spirit will live on through them.

We remember Nancy for her vivacious spirit, her boundless love, and her unwavering faith. Her life was a testament to the joy found in love, faith, and family. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the remarkable life she led. Please share your cherished memories and photos of Nancy on her memorial page, as a tribute to a life well-lived.
